Guild Motto: ‘Loyalty and strength; fairness and determination’

Guild Anthem: ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ by Richard Wagner.

The launch of Yate International Academy has been very successful; I have been impressed by the way students have taken the transition from King Edmund Community School in their stride. The new uniform looks fantastic and has been impeccably worn. Moreover, the new Guild system has fostered a sense of competition, pride and community amongst students and staff.

The Griffin is a mythological beast with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle.  As the lion is traditionally considered the king of the beasts and the eagle the king of the birds, the griffin is thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. Griffins are normally known for guarding treasure. Alexander the Great allegedly used the symbol of the griffin to represent his kingdom, the largest empire the world has ever seen.

Following Alexander’s example, Griffin guild has led the guild point league table for most of the school year so far and I am delighted with the effort that the overwhelming majority of Griffins have made.

I look forward to an exciting 2010 for Yate International Academy and Griffin Guild.
