Who's Who

Danny Wilkinson:

I am a teaching staff governor at Yate International Academy.  I have worked at the Academy since 2007 and teach Design & Technology, Engineering, Construction and Motor Vehicle Studies.  I have responsibility for vocational co-ordination, which involves the leading of enterprise days across the whole Academy and the running of the vocational centre for Engineering, Construction and Motor Vehicle. Prior to teaching I spent 15+ years in the engineering industry working with blue chip companies to aid manufacturing. I have 2 children, both of whom will be students at the Academy from September 2010.

I currently work for an enviromental maintenance company working on the motorways and main highways. I have two children currently attending Yate International Academy, one in Year 11 and one in Year 7. I became a Governor because I believe education is one of the most important aspects in a child’s life and each child should be given the opportunity to attain the best they can within their education. Before becoming a Governor at Yate International Academy, I was a Governor at Kings Court Primary School and am now looking forward to the new challenges that face the Academy. I am currently Governor for Internationalism and look forward to working on this area of Academy life with the staff who are also involved.

I have been a parent governor for a number of years and have three children, all of whom have been students of The King Edmund Community School (now Yate International Academy).  As a professional engineer I am well aware the value of a good education in today's workplace and understand how important it is to our children. I believe it is important for parents/carers and local people to get involved with local schools to give all the support they can.

I am a parent of a student currently at Yate International Academy and work locally on contract management at Rolls-Royce. My interest is in helping to make sure the Academy operates well and acts responsibly with the money they receive from the Government for our children's education. Part of my role is also to assist at the Federation level with both Academies on Development and new buildings that we shall see in the next few years.

Tony Davis:

I have lived in Yate for 36 years and am married with two grown up sons, both of whom went to King Edmund Community School.  I work for the Department of Work and Pensions at Bath Jobcentre.  I have been a governor at the school for many years and was a great supporter of King Edmund Community School, as each young person was treated as an individual; I continue to encourage this approach in the new Academy.  I am a Yate Town Councillor, with a special interest in young people, and want to help promote the Academy’s Council.

Richard Westacott:

richard westcottI am particularly proud to be a Local Governor of Yate International Academy as I have followed its progress over the past few years with great interest and sincerely believe that it is firmly on the path to great success. My experience of the Academy, coupled with this belief, is such that my son will start at the Academy in September 2010. My background and experience is wide ranging: I work for a multinational company and have held posts as diverse as HR manager, Leadership Development Design Manager and Customer Service Representative. Away from work I take a full and active role in the community, both in Pucklechurch where I live and further afield, and have been Lay Chairman of the Kingswood and South Gloucestershire Deanery Synod since the mid 1990’s. I believe every child has potential and should be encouraged to achieve ‘Success through Motivation, Knowledge and Skills’. As a Local Governor I will strive to keep this firmly on the agenda.
